Workout Wednesday: Ankles

Yesterday I came up with a quick workout snack (someone I work with introduced me to that term and I like it). I started out jumping rope, moved to step ups on a sturdy workout box (maybe one foot high), transitioned back to jump rope, and completed the circuit with quick step ups on my fireplace (maybe an inch high). Both sets of step ups I did 10 leading with my right foot, 10 leading with my left. I was so excited I made a video, but Tiffany vetoed it. I guess the jump rope section was a little tooooooo revealing . . . if you know what I mean. As in Little Sully stole the show. So no video.

Anyway, ankles. If you hike off pavement, I recommend some simple and fairly easy exercises. Calf raises are obligatory ankle strengthening exercise, but Tiffany and I also do toe taps around the clock, balancing on one foot and reaching with the other foot to spots in front of us, to the side, behind us—like the hand of a clock. Ankle alphabets is another great ankle exercise. Balancing on one foot, draw the alphabet with the other. I recommend doing this near a wall in case you lose your balance. Finally, deep squat holds don’t only strengthen your knees, but your ankles too (and stretch out your hips).

I’ll try to get you a work out video next week—I just have to be more careful of the camera angles. Or maybe we can get Kevin Driskell (#LiveOutstanding) to make one! He showed me some of his top secret workouts in development and wow! He is your next workout guru you just don’t know it yet.

Until next time, I am Sully.
