5 AM Eagle Search

Alarm went off at 5 am, we were at of the house at 5:30, and got to the park gate around 5:45, just as the park ranger was unlocking the gate. We had two pair of binoculars, a camera, and coffee. We felt like this would be the morning we saw eagles.

Our first stop was a small parking area with a half mile hike down to the water that would put us directly across from their nest. It was dark. We were excited.

The view wasn’t great, so we hurried up the trail looking for a better vantage. Nothing. After a brief debate on patience versus moving on, we headed back to the car and drove to Willow Creek Boat Launch (no motorized vehicles allowed).

We had a much better view of the river here . . .

“You really leading them up for nothing,” Tiffany interjects.

The view was great, but she already knows how this ends. We didn’t see the eagles. We do have an idea of a new location to check out next time, because . . . there will be a next time.

We did see a couple otters. And Tiffany liked this duck.
